I know we've had one of these but I feel the games changed a lot since then, and it would be useful for newbs to have an updated version.
1. Factories. Now if you've read the last version, you'll know not to build your factories and labs near your base. This is sound advice. However, make sure to fly some distance before placing it. A poorly hid farm is easier to take out than buildings round your base. Also look where you are placing it. Check wwhere pver pl;ayers are. It's no good placing it in a position so an enemy is going to fly into it (you can tell an enemys base from the red circles/ 2. Upgrades These are a necessary part of the game. i keep on upgrading until im fully complete. however try to prioritise them. you only have a certain amount of cash so spend it wisely. 3. Bases You'll see lots of weird and wonderful bases in Gate 88. Some of them are more for show than effectiveness. Don't get carried away at the beginning. A very simple base which is effective is this. Build a ring of Mass Drivers and Shipyards around your base (leaving a gap from your CP). then build an outer ring of power generators with the odd regen turret mixed in. Then build another outer ring of missile turrets. In the inner circle stick some exciter turrets. use jumpgates to escape. it should look something a little like this (but better 4. Allying When you press the F key, in gate 88 you can ask people for allies. I recommend not asking everybody for an alliance, as you'll get loads of points, and people will get annoyed. However you should ask one or two people. I recommend asking people with clan names, as these tend to be the best. Right Im knackered and I think thats enough for you to be getting on with so feel free to add. Oh and if you see me playing (dan88), tell me and I'll go easy on you -------------------- |

please don't double post. there's an edit button for you to add stuff to it or delete stuff from it.
aside from that, this sounds like useful information for any common player to read. *fumbles for a thumbtack and pins the topic* -------------------- |

Hmm... I am completely sick of farms. They work at first, but towards the middle of the game they just get too easy to destroy.
But, I mean, to each their own. Everyone makes different bases. |

Hide them several radar screens away. I usually put 'em right next to my base at the start of the game, build a warp gate+signal station, then fly away into the middle of nowhere while researching mechanics and stuff. Once I'm far enough, I drop another warp gate+signal station, come back to the cp, and move my farms to the far-off location. They rarely get destroyed.

I suppose, but then don't you also have to waste all that time flying out there?

it takes a couple of minutes. factories and research labs are easy pickings. theres a tip for a newb. If you see a load of factories and research labs, rush at them with heavy config. lol

also for noobs never build in the player spawn where u start out because people like to baserush and attack there. if u are far from enemy bases u ussually dont get attacked unless you are point leader. this will give time to learn better

Aren't you supposed to avoid attacking point leaders? I try to olny attack people with less points than me if I'm playing for points.

you attack someone in the lead because you want to hinder them from getting more points. If you attack point leader they have to be on defense which is less points and if u kill thier base they have to rebuild which hinders them more.

And in the process of attacking them they get points.
